Character name: Komaeda Nagito
Age: 22/23
Canon: Danganronpa
Canon point: End of 2.5
History: Wiki link
Three key adjectives:Intelligent, dedicated, fragile.
Influential Events:
* One of the most crucial events in Komaeda’s life was the death of his parents. It was one of the first major things his luck caused that twisted his view of how events work and would seal how he interprets his good and bad luck for the rest of his life and is the first event of a series of unfortunate circumstances.
When he was in grade school his family went on vacation and their plane was hijacked, he considers this bad luck, then a meteor crashed into the plan and killed the hijacker, this was good luck, but it also killed his parents (bad luck) but, he inherited their fortune and could be independent (good luck). It’s a good example of how he stretches what “good luck” can be to make up for the extreme bad luck he experiences and causes to those around him.
* Getting into Hope’s Peak Academy was the next most influential experience in his life. It was both the happiest and worst. On one hand he would be able to go to the school he most admired and be with the people he felt were the most special. On the other hand he didn’t consider himself special enough to be around them, and his talent wasn’t worth calling a tallent. Also, since it was such a good thing to be able to go there, the counter was being diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia and stage 3 Leukemia.
* The next major event was when Junko targeted the class of 77b to turn them into Despair. The first half of the process he tried to stop her, and did get as far as finding her and pulling a gun on her, but was stopped by Kamakura who took his gun and then shot Komaeda instead. This event left a strong impression on him and is when he fell in love with Hinata/Kamakura and felt a pull towards him. It was also the first time anything had cancelled his luck. (though he still managed to live through his own luck.)
The second part is when Junko successfully divided the class, brain washed their teacher Chisa, and got their class president Nanami killed through a brutal death maze she forced the rest of the class to watch. The tragedy of it all was suppose to break them and lead them to despair, though for Komaeda it more distorted his obsession with Hope and pulled him into two extremes. (While Despair he’s decided that the only way to bring Hope is to first bring devastating despair. And though this isn’t outside his normal feelings he did have lines he didn’t cross, mostly in that he did not actively cause despair as much as used the idea of Hope as an excuse as to why he needs to stuffer all the time.)
* The next biggest thing was going into the Neo World Program. The Future Foundation gathered up all of the Remnants of Despair and put them into a special program to help take away their despair. Before going into the program this is the second time he runs into Kamakura/Hinata, and once in the program he is the first to meet Hinata. Everyone has their memories wiped and only remember before entering Hope’s Peak Academy. He starts off as a helpful and kind person, who is a pessimist and has self worth issues. Though once the program is hijacked and turned into a killing game his ends justify the means methods get triggered and his desperate ideas of Hope and Despair drive him to cause problems. There are two major events while in the Neo World Program.
The first is the first chapter, he manipulates everyone into having a party where he intends to be the first victim of murder thinking this somehow will help the person he’s decided to put his faith in to achieve hope. (In this case Teruteru.) His luck causes it all to backfires however and someone else sees what he’s doing and ends up dying in his place.
The second major event within the Neor World Program is when he discovered they were all Despair. After learning this he rejects his classmates and decides that the “Traitor” that is someone not part of their class (though they don’t know who that is) is the only innocent person and thus decides they are the only one worth living. He sets up a plan to get the traitor to murder him using his own luck so it would be impossible to solve so that person could go free. Though there are things that imply most of his decisions had been spur of the moment (his illness affects the ability to control impulses.) but his personality is such that he’ll continue with whatever he started no matter what. (He leaves a message to both the traitor or the rest of the class since he’s not sure what outcome there will be. He gives clues on how to get out of the program at that point.)
* Finally the last major event is after dying in the Neo World Program. His death was so traumatic that his mind created it’s own little world in the depths of the program. While everyone else was able to wake up after Hinata and the survivors got out, Komaeda was trapped. He created a world where talent didn’t exist and he was a magnet for all unfortunate things. The only way to get him out was for Hinata to make an AI program to go into the world and kill Komaeda’s friends until he finally accepted the reality was fake.
Once he accepted it wasn’t real and was ready to come back and rejoin the class he was cured of despair, remembered everything before the Neo World Program and was much more connected to the class than he had been before.

Chosen path: Cleric
3 Abilities:
Canon: Technically he doesn’t have any powers in canon, though Luck is considered a talent is an abstract thing with no control. With that said if it needs to be considered a canon ability this is how it works. Komaeda’s luck acts in extremes and like a rube goldberg machine. Events are done in such a way that the end result will ultimately be what Komaeda desires, however it usually destroys people around him in the process. Generally it works in a pattern, bad luck brings good luck and everyone other than him is collateral damage. The best way to manifest this is probably doing high chance of crit fail and crit success but less in the middle.
Path 1: ○ Channel Divinity
Path 2: ○ Zone of Truth
Why this path?: Komaeda above everything wants to support his friends and people around him. He wants to be useful, and take care of things. At his best he is a nurturing person. He is also a pretty devoted person to the concept of Hope.
Also he is portrayed as a healer in a lot of supplemental stuff related to the canon. Such as the dungeon crawler in DRV3.

Re App, since left:
Komaeda spent some time traveling trying to learn more about places and spending some time by himself. Convinced that he caused nothing but trouble and not really fitting in it felt better to learn more about the world he had been dropped into and was expected to protect. He didn’t stay anywhere particularly long, and his luck generally worked in his favor for not needing to worry about bandits or money. After a while he felt guilty for trying to run away and decided he should come back and try and do what he could and help bring Hope.
